Obituary for Betty S. Boone

Albertson-Betty Skinner Boone, 79, peacefully passed away, Tuesday, May 1, 2018 while surrounded by her family. Betty was raised by her grandparents, Nathan Edward Skinner and Betty Smith Skinner. They instilled in her the value of a strong work ethic at an early age. Betty met her husband, Alvis Edward “Al” Boone, Sr. at a Kinston Drive-In. It was love at first sight for Betty and Al. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1998.

Betty took great pride in overcoming many hardships to make something out of her life. She loved her role as matriarch of the family. A true champion for her family, Betty was protective and always quick to defend them. In her eyes they could do no wrong. Betty was a woman of strong values and morals. She always did her part and strived to be a strong example for her family. Described as head-strong and set in her ways, Betty believed in being firm, demanded discipline, and liked things her way.

Betty earned a degree in cosmetology and fulfilled her dream of having her own beauty shop. She worked sun up to sun down and went the extra mile to take care of her customers.

A gifted seamstress, Betty truly enjoyed sewing. She loved working in the garden and canning vegetables. Her family has many fond memories of her cooking. No one fixed better home-fried chicken. Betty had a heart for helping others and often used her skills in the kitchen to help those in need.

She loved trips to the beach and camping. Betty had a deep passion for the outdoors and fishing. Always happy when out fishing, nothing was more pleasing than the tug of a fish on the line, no matter the size. She and her longtime companion, Faison, have many fond memories of camping trips to the coast. Betty and Faison met many years ago at the Kinston Senior Dance Club. Faison’s friendship and companionship brought much joy in recent years to Betty’s life.

A service to celebrate and honor Betty’s life will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Betty is survived by four children, Alvis Edward “Al” Boone Jr. and wife, Wendy, Brian Keith Boone and wife, Kim, Tonya Boone Stocks and husband, David, and Stephen Ray Waring; ten grandchildren, Dustin, Corey, Jared, Austin, Allison, Alana, Kelsie, Kaylee, Juli and Tyler; her longtime companion, Faison Smith; her beloved canine companions, Hailey, Buddy, and Toby; and four great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will be received Saturday from 1-2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
