Obituary for C.D. Sullivan

Kinston-Charles Douglas “C.D.” Sullivan was called to his heavenly rest on Thursday, November 23, 2017.

C.D. was born July 6, 1927 in Johnston County as the 11th of 16 children born to the late Bertha Phillips Sullivan and Jack Sullivan.

C.D. was a longtime member of Spilman Memorial Baptist Church where he served in the nursery and sang in the choir for many years. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. C.D. retired from Service America Corporation after 38 years of service.

In his early years, C.D. loved to play baseball and later taught his sons and many others the game by coaching little league. A true sportsman, C.D. was most content when out on the golf course or fishing at the pond. As a proud father and grandfather, C.D. found great pleasure in supporting his children and grandchildren in their sport activities.

A service to celebrate and honor C.D.’s life will be held Sunday, November 26, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Spilman Memorial Baptist Church, 601 Madison Avenue, Kinston. A time of visitation will follow the memorial service. A graveside committal service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Selma Memorial Gardens, Selma.

C.D. is survived by his wife of sixty nine years, Ola Faye Sullivan; two children, Brenda Sullivan Jongleux and husband, Bob, and Gary Sullivan and wife, Lois Ann; daughter-in-law, Ellen Sullivan; five grandchildren, Duff Sullivan and wife, Amy, Shannon Sullivan Miles and husband, Brent, Nikki Sullivan Stout and husband, Adam, Daniel Jongleux, Alicia Jongleux and fiancé, Chaz Henrich; five great-grandchildren, Sky Sullivan, Katie Miles, Jenna Marie Sullivan, Logan Miles and Henry Miles; two sisters, Blanche Peele and Marverine Goodwin; and three brothers, Billy Sullivan, Wiley Sullivan and Gene Sullivan.

In addition to his parents, C.D. was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Faye Sullivan; son, Cliff Sullivan, five sisters, Cretta Mae Lane, Rosa Kohut, Dorothy Chaapel, Virginia Johnson and Geraldine Gaylor; and five brothers, Leland Sullivan, Woodrow Sullivan, Wilmar Sullivan, Joe Sullivan and Irving Sullivan.
