Obituary for Dixie Bunn Letchworth

Dixie B. Letchworth
March 11, 1933 - July 13, 2017
La Grange-Dixie Bunn Letchworth, 84, peacefully passed away Thursday morning surrounded by her family. Born in Lenoir County, she was the third of thirteen children born to the late Charlie Bunn and Carrie Hinnant Bunn. She was the wife of the late Benjamin Thurston Letchworth. Dixie loved her Lord, and started each day by reading her Bible and a devotion from The Daily Bread.

She was a faithful and devoted member of La Grange First Free Will Baptist Church. After raising her three sons, Dixie went back to school and graduated with a bachelors degree in education from Atlantic Christian College. She worked at La Grange Elementary School for thirty years. Quiet and gentle by nature, Dixie appreciated the simple things in life. She enjoyed admiring Gods creation and especially enjoyed watching the humming birds at the feeder she placed in her yard. She loved cooking and had an extensive cookbook collection. Always active, she found a home at the local Curves and formed a special bond with her friends there. Her Saturdays were spent with her sisters, going out for lunch and then an afternoon of shopping. Most important in her life was her family. She took great pride in all of her grandchildren and relished time spent with them.
A service to celebrate Dixies life will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Hobgood officiating. A graveside committal service will be held Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from Fairview Cemetery.
Dixie is survived by three sons, Mike Letchworth and wife, Vicky of La Grange, Charles Letchworth and wife, JoAnn of La Grange, and David Letchworth of the home; seven grandchildren, Michelle Garon and husband, Chris, Jessica Simerly and husband, Dennis, Jeremy Letchworth, Marshall Letchworth, Carrie Letchworth, Sarah Letchworth, and Mitchell Ann Letchworth; two great-grandchildren, Brianna Garon and Emma Grace Garon; five sisters, Geneva White, Grace Jones, Geraldine Goodman, Kathy Herring, and Anna Jones; five brothers, Charlie Bunn, Alton Bunn, Lindsey Bunn, Wesley Bunn, and Harold Bunn; three sisters-in-law, Fay Letchworth, Dixie Dixon, and Gladys Horne; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Whitley and Ellen Seymour.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to caregivers, Sonja Ginn, Lana Pate, Patty Tripp, Wendy Gautier, Samantha Hardison, and Peggy Scallan for their exceptional care and devotion to Dixie.
Family and friends will be received Saturday following the service at the funeral home and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to The ALS Association Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-002. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
