Obituary for Dorothy Reaves Lane

Kinston-Dorothy Reaves “Dot” Lane, 84, of Kinston, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017, in Morehead City. Dot was born February 2, 1933, in Lenoir County to the late Johnnie Clarence Reaves and Sadie Mae Sullivan Reaves. Her husband, Jimmie Thomas Lane, and brother, Arnold Reaves, also preceded her in death.

Dot was a true Christian lady who loved God and lived each day showing those around her what faith in action is all about. Dot worshiped at Kinston First Pentecostal Holiness Church. A true prayer warrior for Christ, if the doors were open, Dot was present. She sang in the choir for many years and was instrumental in establishing the Prayer Warrior Class.

Artistic and wanting to encourage others, Dot’s homemade cards with just the perfect verse were a source of inspiration and joy to family and friends. Organized, punctual and always stylishly dressed, Dot always strived to be the best in all her endeavors. She graduated at the top of her class and never missed a day of school from kindergarten to her high school graduation.

Beyond her faith, nothing was more important to Dot than her family and their happiness. She relished her role as matriarch of the family. In the eyes of her family, Jesus created the perfect mother and grandmother for them. She personified Proverbs 31. A gifted seamstress and cook, Dot’s family has many fond memories of her wonderful desserts and special rice and tomatoes dish.

A service to celebrate and honor Dot’s life will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 2 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Rogers and Pastor Willis Pearson officiating. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Dot is survived by her two daughters, Ellene Cole and husband, Tim, and Jane Register; five grandchildren, Christie Mozingo and husband, Jack, Jeremy Pearson and wife, Kelly, Amanda Poole and husband, Brooks, Colton Cole and Taylor Cole; five great-grandchildren, Logan, Gavin, Jack, Reese and Reaves; and two sisters, Frances Jarman and husband, Breck, and Betty Jean Davis.

Dot’s family will receive friends Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of Jane Register, 2720 Falling Creek Road, Kinston. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Memorials may be made to Kinston First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 711 Phillips Road, Kinston, NC 28504.
