Obituary for Joseph Paul Lane

Joseph “Joe” Paul Lane, 51, of La Grange, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017. Joe was born June 30, 1966 in Lenoir County to Paulette Mewborn Morgan and Richard Earl “Dickie” Lane.

Joe graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in psychology. He used his education and outgoing personality to instantly connect with his clients and coworkers at Howell’s Childcare. His easy-going, fun-loving nature served him well. Joe lit up any room he entered with his sparkling eyes and bright smile. He had the ability to make everyone around him smile and feel better about themselves.

Joe’s daughter, McCenzie has many fond memories of their shared love for mischief with one another. They were always looking for the next opportunity to play a good prank on each other. He gave everyone in his inner circle a nickname and took great pride in being a mama’s boy. A trip to the beach or a tug on the fishing line always brought a big smile to Joe’s face.

Always athletic, Joe loved the game of baseball. He was proud of the perfect game he pitched as a Little Leaguer. Somewhat superstitious, Joe always had thirty-six cents in his back pocket to bring him good luck. He later starred on the North Lenoir High School baseball team and several area softball teams.

Joe was a man of many talents. He loved writing and art. Quite creative, he could make something out of nothing and improvise with whatever he had to work with.

Joe was always sensitive to the needs of others. He was always willing to step up to help family and friends. Joe’s family fondly recall his way of showing his love for them with a bright smile or a nibble on the ear or neck. You always knew he loved you.

A graveside service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 4 p.m. from the Mewborn Family Cemetery with Pastor Bob Smith officiating.

In addition to his parents, Joe is survived by his daughter, McCenzie Lane; sister, Heather Lane Reese; two nephews, Benjamin Hunter Reese and Noah Lane Reese; along with his beloved best friend, Allyson Daughety.

Joe’s family will receive friends Sunday following the graveside service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Memorials in Joe’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
