Obituary for William Kelvin Harrison

Kinston-William Kelvin Harrison, 80, of Kinston, received his Heavenly reward on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. William was born July 1, 1937 in Lenoir County to the late Richard Homer Harrison and Annie Blanche Davis Harrison. William worked with the NC DOT as a highway inspector and retired following 45 years of service.

A man of strong faith, William worshiped his Lord at Trinity United Methodist Church where he was a life-long member. William lived “The Golden Rule” daily. He always treated others as he desired to be treated. Many looked up to William as a father-figure. He took great pride in being honest, fair and straight forward.

Mechanical-minded, William was a “fix it” man. Whether woodworking to create something new or working to repair something old, he could usually be found piddling around the house. His children have many fond memories of Saturdays spent cutting wood as a family.

A proud family man, William and Mary Ann exemplified what a strong Christian marriage should be. William was a loving husband and father, and he especially loved being “Granddaddy.” A visit from the grandchildren or a trip for ice cream always made his day.

A service to celebrate and honor William’s life will be held Friday, October 6, 2017 at 6 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with Rev. Vito Bisogno and Rev. Karl Grant officiating. Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. from Pinelawn Memorial Park.

William is survived by his wife of fifty four years, Mary Ann Parker Harrison; son, Kelvin Harrison and wife, Julia; daughter, Michelle Grady and husband, David; four grandchildren, Justin Grady, Jaret Grady, Dakota Harrison and Cheyenne Harrison; seven siblings, Frances Pittman, Joseph Harrison, Lily McCoy, Mary Mason, Cecil Harrison, Ruby Tyndall and Evelyn White; his beloved canine companion, Christy; along with a young man thought of like his own grandson, Trevor Baca.

William’s family will receive friends Friday following the service. Online condolences may be expressed at In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in William’s memory to Trinity UMC, Attn: Memorials, 2626 Paul’s Path Rd., Kinston, NC 28504.
