Obituary for Anthony Art Herring

Anthony Art Herring
May 23, 1982 - April 14, 2019

Kinston-Anthony Art Herring passed away April 14, 2019. Anthony was born to Art Jones Herring and Vickie Allio Herring in Lenoir County on May 23, 1982.

Anthony, or “Pork Chop” as his friends knew him, was one-of-a-kind. His intentions were pure, and his heart was tender. He always rooted for the underdog, and nothing pleased him more than to see good conquer over evil. With a zest for life, he did all he could to help others and get the most out of living. Ever the jokester, his sense of humor won over most folks, but when his humor didn’t grab you, his bright and warm smile sure would.

Four wheelers and guns captivated Pork Chop’s attention. If it involved the outdoors, it involved Pork Chop. He loved to take things apart and put them back together, even when all the pieces didn’t make it back in. Likely one of his favorite outdoor activities was grilling. No one could barbecue a pig like him. Whatever he was doing, he was most likely listening to old country music.

The second of four children, Anthony was a family man. Nothing meant more to him than the precious moments shared between him and his family, especially where his children were concerned. He took pride in teaching his son how to drive and found joy in playing with his daughters. Anthony never minded stopping everything to take his children wherever they needed to go, whether it was sports, church, or dance. He loved being Daddy. He never missed an opportunity to watch his favorite show, “Seal Team,” which he would record so that he and his wife could watch it together. Anthony was proud to be a father and husband, honored to be a son, happy to be a brother, and a beloved uncle.

Most importantly, Anthony accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior earlier this year. He was baptized at Spilman Memorial Baptist Church on March 17, 2019.

A service to honor and remember Anthony’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at Spilman Memorial Baptist Church in Kinston. Visitation with family will begin at noon. Graveside services will follow at Fairview Cemetery in La Grange.

Anthony is survived by his wife of nine and a half years, Melissa; three children, Landon, Mackenzie, and Madison; his parents, Art and Vickie Herring; three sisters, Marsha and husband Andy, Ashley and husband Mario, and Rebecca and husband Kevin; his grandfather, Wilbur Allio; his beloved dog, Sadie; mother-in-law, Dawn Murphy; father-in-law, Craig Murphy; sister-in-law, Courtney Murphy; mother and father-in-law, Amy and Ashley Whaley; sister-in-law Amanda and husband Russell; brother-in-law Robert; brother-in-law Zac; and nieces and nephews, Courtney, Connor, Carter, Riley, Rachel Sue, Logan, Skyler, and Lacey. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Melba and Peter Herring, and his maternal grandmother, Reba Sue Allio.
