Obituary for Damon Patrick Barwick

Damon P. Barwick
April 14, 1923 - November 7, 2018

Damon Patrick Barwick passed away peacefully early Wednesday November 7, 2018, at his home. Damon was born April 14, 1923, in Wayne County to the late Alex and Emma Herring Barwick.

With a patriot’s heart, Damon served his country in World War II in the European Theater. Upon his return home, he became a lifelong farmer. He took pleasure and pride in working the ground and tending his crops. For Damon, there was no better place to be than home on the family farm.

Damon married his soul mate and the love his life, Doris Williams, on January 6, 1949. They were happily married for 54 years until her death in July of 2003. Damon and Doris loved the life they built together and were blessed with three wonderful children. He took pride in raising his children with good core values. Damon was always present and supportive in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As the family patriarch, he was a constant encourager and had a way of making each family member feel like his favorite. Hard work, respect for elders, and love for God and country were his themes in life. Damon was a dedicated family man, a worthy role model, and a true southern gentleman.

With great faith, Damon entrusted his life to his heavenly Father. He shared his faith with his family and everyone he met. Damon was a member of Daly’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Seven Springs.

A service of remembrance will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018, at Rouse Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Singleton officiating. Interment will be Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, Pink Hill.

Damon is survived by his three children, Danny Barwick and wife, Patti, of Seven Springs, Angela Fader and husband, Donald, of Kinston, and David Barwick of Seven Springs; four grandchildren, Corey Fader and wife, Megan, of Kinston, Gregory Fader and wife, Katie, of Greenville, Jonathan Barwick and wife, Paige, of Mount Olive, and Alexis Harvell and husband, James, of Seven Springs; and four great-grandchildren, Lucy Abbott Fader, Emma Fader, Rollin Fader, and Caroline Fader.

The family would like to thank caregivers Gaynell Carmack, Onalee Herring, Terry Norville, Debra Duff, Delores Summerlin, Terrie Taylor, Ann Thompson, Brenda Ingram, and Sue White for the excellent care shown to daddy. We deeply appreciate all you have done for him.

Family and friends will be received Friday following the service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
