Obituary for Dorothy Lamour Curdts

Dorothy Lamour Curdts
May 3, 1940 - April 21, 2019

La Grange-Dorothy Lamour Pelletier Curdts passed away Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019. Lamour was born in Lenoir County on May 3, 1940, to the late Marvin Alfred Pelletier and Sue Bell Rouse Pelletier. Lamour was a member of La Grange First Free Will Baptist Church, and upon her move to Goldsboro, attended The Bridge.

Lamour had the kindest and most gentle spirit. Her very essence was upbeat, happy, and positive. She was a constant source of encouragement and support to those around her. With her own strong will and determination, she pushed everyone to do better, meet their potential, and achieve their highest goals. She believed that one should never compromise their goals. Dot’s unwavering faith in the Lord maintained her belief in the power of prayer and reminded her that all things were possible through Christ, who strengthened her.

That same determination was evident in all Lamour did. She was a worthy opponent in the Senior Games, along with her sisters, Vivian and Marjorie. From Canasta to Bingo or Scrabble, other gamers didn’t stand a chance if the Pelletier girls were competing.

With an artistic flare of her own, Lamour was an avid supporter of the La Grange Arts Council. She was a late-bloomer in terms of discovering her gift of creativity, but once she found it there was no stopping her. She loved watercolor and it became an outlet of expression. The same passion she had for her art flowed into the love she gave her plants and flowers. There was no doubt that Dot had a green thumb. If she planted it, it grew; if she watered it, it blossomed. Lamour’s nurturing spirit was expressed even in the way she cared for her flowers.

Lamour’s greatest passion in life was her family. She and her husband, Bud, married on July 29, 1960, and from that point forward they lived a life of devotion and love. Dot was proud to be a United States Air Force military wife. Even when it wasn’t easy, Lamour and Bud forged through to give their children the best life possible. Dorothy’s greatest pride was her children. She rejoiced in their successes and encouraged them during the difficult times. When her grandchildren and great-grandchildren entered the picture, Lamour rejoiced in being a grandmother. Nothing was more precious to her than her grands. As the scripture says in Proverbs 31:28, “Her children rise up and called her blessed.”

A service to celebrate Lamour's life will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019, at 1 p.m. from La Grange First Free Will Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley. A time of visitation and fellowship will be held in the hour before the service.

Lamour is survived by two children, Sheila Leatham and husband, Wade, and Jeff Curdts and wife, Robin; three grandchildren, Collin Curdts, Chase Daniel and wife, Alicia, and Kyle Daniel; two precious great-grandchildren, Christian and Abbie; and one sister, Vivian P. Clark. In addition to her parents, Dot was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Bud Curdts; and a sister, Marjorie P. Hines.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Memorial contributions may be sent to the La Grange Arts Council, P.O. Box 541, La Grange, NC 28551. Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
