Jerry Lee Landers
April 9, 1943-October 14, 2018

Kinston-Jerry Lee Landers, 75, received his promotion to eternity on Sunday, October 14, 2018. Jerry was born on April 9, 1943 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Earl Landers and Beulah Painter Landers.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 23 years of faithful and dedicated service. Jerry was an American Patriot who fought for the cause of freedom. Following his military service, Jerry enjoyed a long and rewarding career with the United States Postal Service, from whence he later retired.

Ever the outdoorsman, Jerry relished time spent in nature. He could often be found tending his vegetable garden or working in the flower beds. Jerry could spend hours outside admiring God’s beautiful creation. The beauty of nature and wildlife brought him much delight and relaxation. Jerry and his wife, Patricia, found pleasure in visiting national and state parks around the country. When visiting out West, the two especially enjoyed stopping in New Mexico or Arizona. The bright lights of the casino were always sure to lure Jerry in. He was one to never pass up a good poker game.

Jerry loved people. He never met a stranger and always made quick friends. Jerry had a way of connecting in a meaningful and heartfelt way with everyone he came in contact with. All who knew him, loved him. He had a great laugh that endeared him to those he loved. Giving and kind, Jerry would do anything for anyone when needed. He worked quietly behind the scenes to ensure that those he loved were taken care of. Jerry never complained and made every effort to keep a positive attitude. His very nature was gentle, yet strong.

As the patriarch of the family, Jerry kept those around him grounded. Always calm and stoic, he was looked to as the rock of the Landers family. Patricia was the love of Jerry’s life. From high school sweethearts to 56 years of marriage, Jerry and Patricia built a fruitful and happy life together. Jerry was a proud father and his grandchildren were the light of his life. The light of Jerry’s memory will continue to burn in the hearts and lives of those he loved.

Services to honor Jerry’s life and memory will be held at a later date.

Jerry is survived by his best friend and wife, Patricia; daughter, Tam Howard and husband, Donald; five grandchildren, Rachel Lee Monk and husband Larry, Justin Elwood Howard and wife Lidia, Kellie Elizabeth Landers, Sara Melissa Holmes and husband Dean, and Austin Levi Landers; four great-grandchildren, Addilyn Landers, Kylie Holmes, Cameron and Cayden Holmes; and siblings, Juanita Cain Landers, Rose Presley, Phyllis Britton, and Patsy Thaxton. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Lee Landers, Jr.; and five siblings, Maxine Higginbotham, Sue McClanahan, Joyce Rogers, Larry Landers, and Betty Cobb.

Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Memorials in Jerry’s memory may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC, 27534. Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
