Obituary for Kathryn Wiggins Hill

Kathryn W. Hill
January 2, 1953-September 29, 2018

Grifton-Kathryn Mae Wiggins Hill, 65, of Grifton, was released from the bondage of this earth to meet her Savior on September 29, 2018. Kathryn was born on January 2, 1953 to the late Walker Vinson Wiggins and Gay Marie Moye Wiggins.

A graduate of East Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Kathryn was a loyal and dedicated teacher with Craven County Public Schools until her retirement. With a heart as wide as the world, Kathryn cared for each of her students as if they were her own children. She went beyond the call of duty as a teacher and made sure the needs of her children were met each day. Whether buying them clothes and shoes, paying for student’s field trips, or putting up Christmas trees in the homes of her “kids”, everything Kathryn did was out of love. Her fingerprint will forever remain on the hearts of each child who walked through the door of her classroom.

Kathryn was as generous a person as they come and she lived her life in service to others. Her church family at Free Gospel PFWB will remember Kathryn as “the Wal Mart greeter” as she never met a stranger. Kathryn showed hospitality to every member and visitor who walked through the doors of the church. Her dedication to the cause of Christ was evident in all she did. Kathryn will fondly be remembered as a “fisherwoman of souls.”

Family was always at the forefront of Kathryn’s life. She was a loving and devoted wife, sister, and friend. Kathryn was the ultimate aunt, always loving and giving to each of her nieces and nephews as “second mother.” Her life and legacy will be cherished for time and eternity to come.

A service to celebrate Kathryn’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home. Interment at Fairview Cemetery will follow the service.

Kathryn is survived by her husband of 45 years, Marion Wilber Hill, Jr.; sisters, Linda Wiggins Smith, and Judy Wiggins Anderson and husband, Aubrey; mother-in-law, Evelyn Hill; sister-in-law, Ann Hill Barfield; brother-in-law, Allen Hill; and uncle, Robert E. Carraway; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat companion, Annie Sue. In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by siblings, William Moye, Doris Wiggins Skinner, Mary Rose Wiggins Hart, Ken Wiggins, Jim Farley Wiggins, Sr., Gene Wiggins, and Charles Walker Wiggins.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
