Obituary for Sandi Crews

Sandi L. Crews
August 7, 1958 - April 16, 2019

La Grange-Sandi L. Crews, 60, completed her earthly journey and accepted her promotion to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. Sandi was born August 7, 1958 in Lenoir County to the late Edward F. Long and Joan Hill Long.

Sandi and Tommy were the love of each other’s life. The first time he laid eyes on Sandi, Tommy told her “one day I’m gonna marry you.” For the next 42 years they lived a life of faithfulness and devotion. Raising a family and building a life together, Sandi and Tommy exemplified a scriptural marriage. Wherever you saw Sandi, Tommy was close behind. When she walked into the room, his face lit up with the deepest affection. No one has ever loved anyone the way Tommy loves Sandi.

Life for Sandi revolved around her different families and their well-being. From her boys at home, to her many children at Frink or her church family, Sandi was always looking out for others and making sure they were taken care of.

Tommy, Chad, Blair and all the family have great memories of good food and fellowship around the table. In their eyes, Sandi’s fried chicken, oyster dressing, biscuits, and chocolate pies were second to none. Seeing her boys happy was a driving force in Sandi’s life.

When her grandchildren, Thomas and Sarah Frances, entered the picture the boys had to take a back seat. When with her babies you couldn’t help but witness the bright glow of happiness that radiated from Sandi.

Sandi loved everything about Christmas. Her strong faith in the Lord made Christmas even more special. Celebrating the birth of the “Son,” decorating the mantle with Santas, and preparing the family’s favorite meal filled her heart with great joy. Her faith in her Lord and Savior has been a constant guide when soaring over the mountains or walking through the valleys. She knew true happiness came through her relationship with the Lord.

Summer road trips with Tommy, family vacations with Chad’s family, and Blair coming home to visit always brought the biggest smile. We rejoice and celebrate the good memories of life with Sandi.

A service to celebrate and honor Sandi’s life will be held Friday, April 19, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. A time of visitation and fellowship will follow the service.

Sandi is survived by her best friend, soul mate and husband of 42 years, Tommy Crews; two sons, Chad Crews and wife, Samantha, Blair Crews and fiancee, Kayla Petty; her two grandchildren who were the apples of her eyes, Thomas and Sarah Frances; step-mother, Alice Long; and two siblings, Sharon Rudow and Ed Long.
