Obituary for Vann Rouse Sutton

Vann R. Sutton
July 15, 1953 - March 10, 2019

Bucklesberry-Vann Rouse Sutton, 65, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2019. Vann was born July 15, 1953 in Lenoir County to the late Norman Sutton and Mary Rouse Sutton.

Vann enjoyed the simple life. There was nothing better to him than sitting on the deck, breathing in the fresh southern air. Some of his best times were spent atop his B Allis-Chalmers tractor. A lifelong hog farmer, he was content just to be outside. It brought him great joy to watch the purple martins flying in and out of their gourds in his garden. He was born and raised country, and was proud of the life he built in Bucklesberry. He was upfront and honest in all things, and was sure to tell it like it was. If you didn’t want to know, you’d better not ask.

Quite the cook, Vann could often be caught watching all the best cooking shows and grilling out on his deck. No one grilled better barbecue chicken. Nothing was quite as exciting as tasting a dish he had thrown together with the ingredients he had sitting in the cabinets. His family always knew they were in for a treat when he invited them over for “Voo-Doo.” As much as Vann loved to cook, he loved to eat even more. Like clockwork, he would have fish every Tuesday and Thursday.

Vann was an avid racing fan and Richard Petty’s biggest cheerleader. He was the longest running member of Petty’s fan club. He even has the letter to prove it. Watching the races was the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon for Vann.

Nothing brought Vann as much joy as his family. The highlight of his day was to see his grandkids. The epitome of a father, Vann gave the best instructions. His concern was always with the success and well being of his children. When his boys would act up, Vann would snap, “Cut out all that acting!” His family was his heart, and his memory will remain in their’s for a lifetime to come.

A service to celebrate Vann’s life will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Sutton Family Cemetery.

Vann is survived by his two sons, Chad Sutton and wife, Alicia, B. J. Sutton and wife, Starr; four precious grandchildren, Maddox, Clara, Maverick and Pearl; two brothers, Phillip Sutton and wife, Jane, Jimmy Sutton and wife, Marilyn; and a special niece, Heather Hopkins. In addition to his parents, Vann was preceded in death by a brother, Jeffrey Sutton; and a sister, Alice Faye Hopkins.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday following the graveside committal service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
