Obituary for Dorothy Stroud Alphin

Kinston-Dorothy Stroud Alphin, 90, of Kinston, peacefully passed away and received her Heavenly promotion on Friday, February 2, 2018. Dorothy was born March 18, 1927 to the late Leslie Ray Stroud, Sr. and Barbara Barwick Stroud. Dorothy’s husband of 69 years, Manley Wilbur Alphin, preceded her in death on April 18, 2016.

Everything for Dorothy revolved around the care and well being of her family. Nothing was more precious to Dorothy than time spent with loved ones. She was always in attendance at every event involving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy loved the Christmas season and took advantage of any reason to bring the family together. She brought much love, joy, and happiness to those around her. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.

When at home Dorothy always kept herself busy. She usually could be found outside, hoe in hand, tending to the yard and flowers. When inside she often passed the time sewing.

A lady of strong faith, Dorothy worshipped her Lord at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church. Heaven has truly gained a special lady.

A service to celebrate and honor Dorothy’s life will be held Monday, February 5, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Truett officiating. Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Westview Cemetery.

Davis and wife, Tammy, Jonathan Davis and wife, Amy, Amy D. Curtis and husband, Robert, Joshua Pridgen and wife, Danielle, Nathan Pridgen and wife, Rachel, Ryan Wells and wife, Brandy, and Aaron Wells and wife, Jenna; sixteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; four siblings, Marie Price, Franklin Stroud, William Stroud and Carol Hardison; brother-in-law, Gene Alphin; sister-in-law, Ruby Alphin; and a longtime special friend, Lillian Wells. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by four siblings, Leslie Ray Stroud Jr., Helen S. Grayson, Lemuel Stroud and Judy S. Croom.
