Obituary for Dickie Lane

Dickie Lane
December 20, 1943 - December 5, 2018

La Grange-Richard Earl “Dickie” Lane, 75, of La Grange, conquered his earthly battle on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. Dickie was born December 20, 1943 in Lenoir County to the late Frank “Dick” Lane and Janie Skinner Lane.

Nothing made Dickie happier than the time he spent at the beach. He loved visiting Myrtle Beach and all that it had to offer. His feet were fast on the floor and he loved shagging. At the coast or at home, he was usually listening to beach music. When Dickie was home, it was nothing uncommon to see Dickie cruising around La Grange on his bicycle. Dickie would stop in and visit with friends and family as he made his way through town.

Dickie’s family was foremost in his life. He was a loving father and his three grandchildren were his pride and joy. Dickie was a constant in their lives and was always present. He never missed a game for Noah and even taught Hunter how to drive. He was a wonderful granddaddy to McCenzie, Noah, and Hunter. Growing up, Heather and Joe made many fond memories with their daddy, especially when they were on the water fishing. Heather was her daddy’s girl, and Joe was his buddy. Dickie’s family enjoyed the time they spent around his dinner table. He was an exceptional cook and no one could make homemade spaghetti like he could.

A graveside service to celebrate Dickie’s life will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Mewborn Cemetery.

Dickie is survived by his daughter, Heather Lane Reese; and three grandchildren, Benjamin Hunter Reese, Noah Lane Reese and McCenzie Lane. In addition to his parents, Dickie was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Paul “Joe” Lane; and two brothers, Jimmie Thomas Lane and Joseph Franklin Lane.

Family and friends will be received Saturday following the graveside service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com. Memorials in Dickie’s memory may be made to White Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church, c/o Janet Brown, 1794 Jenny Lind Road, La Grange, NC 28551. Arrangements are entrusted to Rouse Funeral Home, La Grange.
