Obituary for Caroline Castelloe Rouse

Caroline Rouse
May 15, 1942-August 9, 2019

La Grange-Caroline Castelloe Rouse passed away August 9, 2019. Caroline was born in Bertie County to the late Raleigh Roosevelt Castelloe and Mary Pearce Castelloe on May 15, 1942. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roy Lee Rouse, and a brother, David Wayne Castelloe.

Born and raised in Windsor, N.C., Caroline was a country girl. She grew up attending church with her family, and continued to lead a deeply spiritual life as an adult. Caroline was proud to be a member of Spring Hill Free Will Baptist Church. She spoke highly of her church family and was always involved in church activities.

With a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s Degree from East Carolina University, Caroline went on to serve the students and staff of the University of Mount Olive for 20 years. During her career she worked 15 years as a Math Professor, two years as Director of Counseling Services, and 3 years as the Registrar. Her time at UMO was spent building relationships with her students and staff, and being deeply involved in everything from the classes to choir.

Her marriage to her husband, Roy, opened the door for Caroline to step into her next big adventure. For many years she was a partner in the La Grange Bus Company. This allowed Caroline the opportunity to be involved with her community through the many trips she took with local youth groups, churches, schools, and military. Caroline never met anyone she didn’t like.

There was never a more giving and generous soul than Caroline’s. Throughout life, she always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She would do without so that she could give to others. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. Caroline was full of life, and her lifestyle of giving was an example for us all to live by.

A service to honor and remember Caroline’s life will be held Sunday, August 11, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Spring Hill Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the hour before the service.

Caroline is survived by her brother, Raleigh R. Castelloe, Jr. and wife, Phyllis, and her sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Castelloe Carr and husband, Baxter; nephews, Raleigh R. Castelloe, III and wife, Brenna, Andrew Coleman Castelloe and wife, Julie, and James Brandon Hodges and wife, Jennifer; a niece, Karen C. Denton and husband, Blair; and ten great nieces and nephews.
